Dental Cleanings

What Can I Expect At

My Dental Cleaning Appointment?

If you’re a new patient at Dental Wellness in Bergen County, our team will start by taking x-rays of your mouth. X-rays help us look below the surface to identify hidden dental issues, previous dental work, and more. We recommend yearly x-rays after you get your first set of x-rays at our office.

After your dental hygienist takes your x-rays, they will begin your cleaning by scraping plaque and tartar away from your teeth and gum line using special tools. Once your teeth are clean, your hygienist will polish them using a special brush, and floss to remove any remaining debris.

Then, Dr. Moses will enter the room, check your x-rays, and perform an oral exam to check for signs of cavities, gum disease, and other issues. If everything looks good, she’ll give you a clean bill of health. But if she notices any issues, she’ll discuss them with you, go over your treatment options, and work with you to schedule any needed follow-up care at Dental Wellness in Bergen County.

How Often Do

I Need To Get My Teeth Cleaned?

The American Dental Association recommends that you get a teeth cleaning and oral exam every six months, and that’s our recommendation at Dental Wellness in Bergen County, too. You should come and see our team for a teeth cleaning and oral exam every six months.

Six months is a good period of time to track any changes to your oral health, and to remove the buildup of plaque and tartar. Most dental insurance plans cover twice-yearly cleanings and oral exams, too, so coming to our office every six months for preventive dentistry helps you maximize your insurance coverage.
